The CYCLE - 2k Training Accessory Plan
The 2k Time Trial is THE distance in rowing. It is a very difficult race both physically and mentally. It requires an athlete to push beyond their perceived limits in order to score well.
The prime objective of this accessory training program is to help an experienced athlete build towards a 2k personal best in a steady, systematic way. This is not a quick path. The secondary objective is to be so well prepared that the actual race and target become somewhat manageable (dare I say, “easy”).
This program is best used as part of a regular strength and conditioning program. As a stand-alone plan, it lacks enough volume to see adequate change in a short amount of time. To put it into perspective, the quickest one could progress through this plan, sticking to the prescribed two sessions/week, is 7 weeks. I feel confident most can do it within 12-15 weeks (~3 months). Any longer than that means one of two things:
1. The athlete’s additional training is inadequate, or;
2. The target was not achievable for the athlete’s current state of fitness.
